IKEA Assembly

IKEA Assembly tips from experience.

MANDAL items

4 drawer vertical dresser

IMPORTANT

Be careful to place the top/bottom sections of the cabinet portion correctly, as it is easy to invert them.

The key is that the bottom section has feet, and should be placed on the side of the side sections where the rails are closest to the edge.

For smooth drawer motion

Two "tricks":

  1. Those white plastic nails need to be hammered until the *top* of their tops are flush with the surface of the wood (thus pushing their tops *into* the wood). This helps ensure smooth vertical alignment of the rails (otherwise one of the plastic nail heads protruding on the sides of the drawers would tilt the rails slightly) which helps the rail motion be as smooth as possible.
  2. The rails on the drawers need to be "pushed down" against the bottoms of the drawers as firmly as possible. This helps ensure a precise 1mm gap between the drawers when they are inserted so their adjacent tops/bottoms don't touch when you move them in/out.
